Did our brilliant politicians blow it again with this idea of daylight savings time saving energy?

According to a study daylight savings time creates more energy use and does not save energy
Should we get rid of daylight saving time?
Is this another Washington blunder?
Are you sick and tired of having to get up an hour earlier in the morning for nothing?

i am pretty sure daylight savings time was originally conceived for those reasons because of the railroad system could be built cheaper during the day. And i am pretty sure it was cheaper… do you at least have a link?

You might get up an hour earlier but you get that hour back later in the day/evening. You only lost that hour ONE time, when you set the clock back.
I live in Arizona and we do not observe it here - mainly because we do NOT want to extend a HOT day well into the evening in the summer months.
You haven’t LIVED unless you get up at 2 am and it’s still 105 degrees!

It so school children are not standing in the dark waiting on a bus or walking to school in the dark….

This helps to explain the low grades that congress got after they voted to extend dst

The idea of day light savings goes back to Ben Franklin, it was his idea, he was “saving daylight” by getting people up earlier, so they could use the sun to work by. it has never had anything to do w/ politics, and expescially not Washington, not every state observes dlst.

Yes, they blew it big time. Unforturnately for supporters of daylight savingstime(DST), Indiana adopted the DST just last year, giving researchers fresh data on the effects of DST. Turns out Indiana used 8 Million dollars more electricity on DST than it did during the same months on standard time. The reason is air conditioners. People coming home earlier ratchet up the air conditioner as soon as they hit the door. Check out the article in the on line WALL STREET JOURNAL.
Also, just for the record, the majority of the people in Indiana absolutely **** Day light Savings Time. We are in the crease between Eastern and Central time zones. This makes DST a major annoyance. The only way it passed into law, was because our Governor strong armed our legislature into passing it saying it would “save the state ” economically. Well that did not happen, and it looks like Daniels will not be reelected because of DST. I predict Indiana will again do away with DST as we did the first time it was tried 30 years ago.
On the strength of this new data, Daylight Savings time should be abolished nationwide. Let the Europeans spend the extra money on air conditioning.
