What salary range should I seek as a new graduate in Computer Information Systems?

I am a senior at James Madison University studying Computer Information Systems and I plan to pursue a career in IT Consulting or Advisory. One question I am consistently asked in interviews is what my salary expectations are.

The problem I am having is that I don’t know what I should be expecting; I don’t want to sell myself short, but I also don’t want to bid too high for a job I would have really enjoyed.

Where should I look to get a really good grip on what starting salary range I should expect?

What is a well-known, good work of literature that deals with men who abuse their family?

What is a well-known, good work of literature that deals with men who abuse their family?

Like a man that beats his wife and/or kids?
I think when a household is like that, it is very, very sad. But I haven’t read any works of literature that deals with that kind of theme.

Is there a genuine difference in emotionality between men and women?

According to conventional wisdom, women are inherently more emotional than men.

According to conventional feminist wisdom, men and women are about equally emotional, but men are conditioned to contain it and/or express it as anger, whereas women are conditioned to be more genuine about it.

From my own, personal, unscientific perspective, both of these conventional wisdoms are suspect. I say this because at least personally, I’m genuinely not as emotional as most of the women I know. I can’t speak for other men (who might be containing it, lying about it, et cetera), but I genuinely do not have the emotional responses, contained or otherwise, that other people (particularly women) tend to display.

I remember when I was fairly young, my great grandmother, who I was very close to at the time and only learned to respect more as I became more mature and learned more about who she was as a person, died very suddenly and unexpectedly. My mother and grandmother (both normally fairly stoic women) both burst into tears at the news, and I felt some social obligation to respond emotionally as well (just to avoid looking like I didn’t care about her, which I did), but like a bad actor, I simply couldn’t make myself cry, or be upset, or conjure any other emotional response that simply wasn’t there.

As I’ve lived more life, I’ve endured more genuine tragedies and losses, and grieve them, but seem to lack the capacity and tendency for emotional breakdown that many women seem to have. Not because I’m containing it out of social obligation (to the contrary, when someone dies, NOT responding emotionally is often frowned upon, even for men), but because it genuinely isn’t there, and I’m not a good enough actor to fake it.

By contrast, I’ve mentioned before that I tend to be surrounded by fairly progressive, self-respecting women who take on many traditionally male philosophies, including the idea that one should be able to control emotional responses in times of crisis. Yet, I’ve known many of these women to have emotional responses despite trying to control and contain them, even in relatively minor situations (saying goodbye to someone for a long period of time, having a very stressful day, et cetera).

So, is this just a bizarre coincidence of myself being genuinely unusually unemotional and my female friends and associates being genuinely unusually emotional, that’s not related to gender at large? Or is there something to the idea that women inherently experience genuine emotional reactions more than men?

Does anyone else have “dream cities”? Imaginary locations that continuosly show up only when you dream?

Often times I’ll have dreams that occur in certain places I created in my mind that sort of mimic places I know in real life, but look different. And different things happen each time I go there, like in real life. Some examples are a school & a shopping center. It’s almost like a seperate “dream city”. Anyone else have this?

Unless you’re rich, what possible benefit can be gained by voting Repub? After all the damage they have done?

What could possibly be the lure of being a Republican?

Is it because Daddy voted this way and Granddaddy voted this way?
In terms of damage and policy, it’s worse now than any time since 1929. These are serious and perilous times…and Republicans got us into this mess

What’s the lure? What can they do?
Despite all the damage, why do people cling to the Republican party??
Is it Sean Hannity riling these people up?

What is your opinion?
